At Maono Space, we have always been committed to creating a vibrant and supportive community for changemakers. We understand the unique challenges faced by community-based mobilisers and organisers, many of whom work tirelessly in isolation, striving to bring about positive change without access to the resources they need. That’s why Maono was developed—to offer a collaborative environment tailored to the needs of these dedicated individuals, complete with free internet, meeting rooms, and a professional workspace.
Later on we recognised that solid structures were essential for nurturing this community. In August this year we met with the CBO’s at Maono, and through a rigorous process elected a leadership team to streamline funding flows, manage engagements, and ensure the smooth operation of Maono Space. This led to the development of a comprehensive guideline for the space, detailing member registration, meeting protocols, and the election of a management team by registered CBOs. The guideline outlines the roles and responsibilities for each of the seven positions, with two key roles (finance/treasurer and programs) managed by the Open Institute to facilitate coordination, while the remaining five positions are filled by representatives from the CBOs.
Today, we are excited to announce the newly elected members who will guide us in this mission, helping to strengthen our community and promoting even more innovation and collaboration within our space. Please join us in welcoming our new leadership team!
Introducing Our New Leadership Team
Chairperson: Roseline Ngala – Shella Environmental Youth Group
We are honoured to have Roseline Ngala as our new Chairperson. Roseline, the founder of Shella Environmental Youth Group, has long been a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability. Her leadership has driven impactful change within her community, and now, she will bring that same dedication to Maono Space. As Chairperson, Roseline will preside over all Management Committee meetings, provide leadership and direction to the Committee, and serve as the public face and spokesperson for Maono Space. Her vision and experience make her the perfect fit to lead our organisation into a new era of growth and impact.
Vice Chairperson: Patient Salama – Rotaract Club of Malindi
Joining Roseline in leading Maono Space is Patient Salama, our newly elected Vice Chairperson. Patient has been instrumental in supporting youth through her work with the Rotaract Club of Malindi. In her new role, she will assist the Chairperson and assume their duties in their absence, ensuring that Maono Space continues to thrive. Patient’s commitment to community empowerment aligns perfectly with our mission, and we are confident that her leadership will help us foster an even more dynamic and collaborative environment.
Secretary: Esther Gamema – Lit Initiative
Our new Secretary, Esther Gamema, brings a wealth of experience in community advocacy and literacy through her work with the Lit Initiative. Esther will be responsible for recording and maintaining minutes of all Management Committee and general meetings, managing correspondence, and overseeing the maintenance of all official Maono Space records and documents. Her organizational skills and dedication to community empowerment make her an invaluable addition to our leadership team.
Committee Members: Lodger Ondiek – Malindi Sanaa and Victor Kaudo – Malindi Social Justice Center
Rounding out our leadership team are our newly elected Committee Members, Victor Kaudo and Lodger Ondiek. Victor, from the Malindi Social Justice Center, and Lodger, from Malindi Sanaa, both bring unique perspectives and a shared passion for social justice and community development. As Committee Members, they will participate actively in the decision-making and governance of Maono Space, representing the interests of our general membership and contributing their expertise to the overall management of the space.
